Rus Lands, 1054-1132

After Yaroslav the Wise, Kievan Rus broke up into competing states ruled by his sons, starting decades of civil wars. Cities burned; trade dwindled; poverty rose. After 1132, distant regions fell away.

Saint Georgiy

St. Georgiy ("St. George") becomes a popular soldier-saint in Rus lands. He is a frequent subject in icons, a religious art tradition in the Orthodox church.
